We get it, it's easy to get caught up in the whirlwind that is your wedding reception. From one face to the next, you’ll find yourself running around the banquet hall tirelessly thanking and hugging everyone from your favorite aunt to your college roommates’ plus one. In the midst of all that madness, it's important to express your gratitude to those who deserve it most.

If you’re looking for an alternative to a father-daughter or mother-son dance song, we’ve got some suggestions to make that moment last a lifetime. It’s Not About Romance

The distinction between this dance and most of the other special dance moments during your wedding is that this song will not be about romance. This is good to keep in mind as you shuffle through some of your favorite albums to find the perfect jam. Be sure to listen for the lyrics and find some that apply to your relationship with that person to ensure the dance will feel perfectly catered to them.

Think of Memories

In order to pick the perfect song to resonate with your particular family member the most, think back to your most cherished memories with them. Were there standout moments in your childhood that neither of you will ever forget? Remember those times that person was there for you in your time of need? Do you have a song that is special to your relationship with them? Now’s the time to harken back to those moments! Dig deep.

Choose a Mood

The best way to decide what mood to set is by figuring out where the dance will be featured in the progression of the reception. Need to get the party started? Cue the hip-hop breakdance number you and your brother learned from the early 2000’s MTV. Need more feet on the dance floor? Maybe you and your aunt’s favorite line dance could be just the invitation for those still glued to their seats! Need a breather? Use a mellow, slow-paced song for that sentimental moment with your brother or sister. Here are some suggestions for you; take your pick!

Turn Up + Break Down

Pump up the jam, it’s time to get this party started! In order to make your dance performance the highlight of the night, It's best to bring out your wild side as you show everyone how you ‘get down’.

Uptown Funk - Bruno Mars

I Wanna Dance With Somebody - Whitney Houston

Howlin’ for You - Black Keys

(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life - Bill Medley

Sweet Caroline - Neil Diamond

Always be sure to run your choice by the members partaking in the dance. It's important to not push limits and to make sure everyone is comfortable with whatever moves are needed.

That being said, if grandpa wants to break out the worm, be sure to respect your elders (and have a stretcher on stand-by).
